Saba: Horticultural Project
Thanks to generous funding from The Netherlands Ministry of Economics Affairs through the Nature Fund, the Island Government of Saba is implementing a project,
which aims to stimulate and improve the island’s local organic production of fruit and vegetables. Promoting organic horticultural production on the island will contribute
to Saba’s pro- environmentally conscious image and give the island new tourism opportunities surrounding food tourism such as production site tours or taste events.
Local hotels and restaurants have already expressed their eagerness to sell local produce. Additionally, this Nature Fund project will enable the establishment of a nursery
of indigenous trees which will be used to help reforest the island once the issue of free-roaming goats is under control (see: Nature Funded Goat Buy Back Project). The
three-year project (2015-2018) is carried out in partnership with the Agricultural Station.
