Yellow-shouldered parrot

Bonaire is home to the endangered Yellow-shouldered Amazon Parrot. This parrot is a flagship species for the dry forest ecosystem. Due to the decline of this parrot in Venezuela as a result of intense poaching, Bonaire is an important stronghold for its survival globally. This species has been on the brink of extinction, but in recent years, after a concerted and continued conservation campaign started on the island, the numbers are going up steadily.

Roost-counts are carried out on a yearly basis.
