Spirula

Coral reef surveys in 2021 at the leeward side of Curacao (Duthc Caribbean) yielded the discoery of a new worm snail for the Atlantic. With the help of photographs taken during elarlier surveys, its presence on Curacao could be traced back to 2014 and on Bonaire to 2019.  The species cannot be Petaloconchus varians because that worm builds reefs in shallow waters.  

Three not yet reported land snail species from Saba and St. Martin (Netherlands’ Antilles), collected in 1991 Summary. During a one-day visit to Saba (Netherlands’ Antilles) in 1991 seven species of terrestrial snails were collected. All shells were collected empty. Two species among them, i.e. Bulimulus lehmanni (L. Pfeiffer, 1868) and Opeas hannense (L. Pfeiffer, 1840), were not yet reported from Saba. In drift collected in 1991 along the northeast coast of St. Martin (Netherlands’ Antilles) one specimen of Praticolella spec. was found. Also this species was not reported before from St. Martin

New data on the land and freshwater mollusks of St. Martin (Lesser Antilles)

Summary. In follow-up of a species list of St. Martin, Anguilla and St. Barts published in 2020, the first author visited St. Martin for two weeks in December 2020. During this visit almost every day the distribution of land and freshwater snails could be investigated. Based on finds during this visit and new literature, additions to the species list are provided. Macroceramus signatus Guilding, 1828 and Tomostele musaecola (Morelet 1860) were found for the first time on St. Martin.

Inleiding Tijdens het bezoek van de eerste auteur aan Sint Maarten in december 2020 was de temperatuur overdag gemiddeld 25˚C en stond er een comfortabel aanvoelende wind. Er vielen regelmatig enkele regenbuitjes en een enkele stortbui. De omstandigheden leken dus goed voor het vinden van levende slakken, maar toch werden die maar erg weinig waargenomen. Fysieke problemen van de eerste auteur beletten hem om intensief te zoeken. Dit heeft het verzamelen zeker gehinderd. Ondanks dat heeft deze verzameltocht toch weer nieuwe gegevens opgeleverd. In dit artikel worden per groep, familie of soort bijzonderheden gegeven (nieuwe naamgeving, ecologie, verspreiding en zeldzaamheid) met als doel een aanvulling te geven op de soortenlijst uit Hovestadt & Neckheim (2020).

Summary.
 
Based on the literature and own observations a checklist is provided with 27 species of land- and freshwater snails that may occur on Saba, a Dutch island in the Lesser Antilles. Nine species are recorded for the first time from Saba.
